And the Winners Are…

Pro: Jason Makarovich & Matt Dollar

Advanced: Craig Dye & Steve Rose

Intermediate: Alan Kane & Nathan Goodwin

Mixed: Josh Burgess & LayLa Burgess

Sunday’s morning round of alternate shot could have been compared to ‘moving day’ at a major golf event.  Several teams were able to play under the added pressure while others struggled a bit.  The winning Pro Team ended the day with a doubles course record of 39 at the Seneca course.  We had one hole in one.  Intermediate Player Nathan Flounders aced #12 at Easely Saturday.  Nathan won a $90 ace pool.  The ace pool couldn’t have gone to a nicer guy.

While I know I need to post the complete listings of how all the teams finished, I will do that sometime on Monday.  Right now I want thank the volunteers that helped make the tournament a success.

Bryan Board- Bryan called me on Thursday asking if there was anything he could do to help.  I mentioned I was going to be in Easley on Friday night cleaning up the course.  He came out and helped weed eat along the stairs for hole 6 and around the basket for hole 6.  He then came Saturday helped load and unload discs and equipment, posted the sponsor signs.  When we ended up with an odd number of teams he played all four rounds as a ’spotter’ to keep teams honest.  He gave his entire weekend to help out the tournament.  Thank you Bryan.  You were a tremendous help.

Zach ‘CUBAN’ Rogers, Sam Patton & the rest of the Upstate Club- Zack and Sam helped with the water on both days and helped by marking the hornets nests on the course so players didn’t find themselves in a difficult situation.  Zack also help with some decision making and promoting the event.  Thanks Zach and Sam.

Sarah Stanhope & Aaron Cunningham- Sarah and Aaron helped total score cards and keep things flowing following the end of round two, three and four.  They helped me determine the stock discs to carry for the Fly Mart and were a world of help with answering my questions.  They also donated several prizes for the CTPs.  Thanks!

Josh Burgess & LayLa Burgess- Josh and LayLa are kind of the heart and soul of Greater Oconee Disc Golf.  They help guide me as I planned this event and helped out with getting all the CTP signs and helping organize things on Sunday.

Mike Weirda- Mike’s the President of Greater Oconee Disc Golf and without the club’s support, this event would have been more difficult to pull off.

Jim Cunningham - Jim spent a lot of time and energy cleaning up the Seneca Course.  He cleared a lot of under brush on several holes and has always taken an active interest in keeping the course looking good.

Aaron Evans - Aaron had the task of playing with me and having to deal with the distractions that come with his partner being an event TD.  Aaron also helped with keeping me focused on the round and not worrying about everything else while on the course.

Sara Beth Wright - My wife.  She put up with me traveling to several leagues a week for several weeks as I promoted the event.  She listened to me talk on and on about this event.  She volunteered Friday and Saturday with registrations and player sign in.  She took care of making sure money was in order and keeping the money details straight.

If there was anyone I missed with the volunteers, I’m sorry I over looked you this weekend and during this post.  Please know that you support and hard work is much appreciated.

Tournaments are a lot more work than I realized and without the support and hard work of a lot of other people, things wouldn’t have gone as smoothly.  My hats off to those that run events and spend time promoting the sport of disc golf.
