Five weeks away

We’re a little over a month away from this year’s edition of the South Carolina Disc Golf Doubles State Championship.  An update registration form with the change of day one to Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek is in the side bar. Also on the side bar is a visual tour of the front nine and back nine at Chattooga Belle Farm.  Chattooga Belle Farm went in the ground last Saturday and is playable now.  The farm is not charging to play right now but that will change by August 1st.  The official opening of the course is scheduled for August 1st.

We’re planning a GODG work day for the Seneca Course before the tournament.  Seneca has seen some improvements since last year with several dead trees knocked down and removed along with improvements to the bridge between 15-16.  Holes 9, 11 and 13 are more open due to trees being removed.

Registration is open.  The PDGA hasn’t gotten the online registration set up yet.  As soon as it is set up, I’ll post here and on several of the forums. If all the teams I’ve heard from through phone calls, emails and facebook end up playing like they’ve said, we should have a full event.

The PDGA has said we can go with three teams or six players per hole on a shotgun start if we want but I think that would slow play down and I don’t want to slow play.  The only way we we’ll have three teams on one tee is if we end up with an odd number of mixed teams.

I’ve heard from a team in Savannah that is considering coming to the Golden Corner and I heard from some players from Augusta that say they may be bringing 5 teams.  The 2008 Pro Champs have said they’re coming back after missing 2009 to take back their title.

I look forward to hearing from you.

So I went and played Chattooga yesterday. The scenery is awesome and was fun to play. I really enjoyed holes 3, 5, 6, 9, 12, and 17. I lost a disc in the trees to the right on 7, but I found one so if anyone has lost one there let me know what it was and I will let you know if I found it. I lost a red and yellow Discraft Avenger SS with my name on it. Overall I would rate it a 5 on a 1 to 10 scale for difficulty. The only real challenge was length. There weren’t many holes that required finess or touch, it was just grip it and rip it. I really hope the tee areas are smoothed out for the tournament, some of the footing was bad. It was extremely windy so you need good wind discs. They were mowing the “fairways” while we were there, they consisted of a single strip between tee to hole and not even that on some. They need to be mowed much wider, the grass/weeds is very thick. Heat is a major issue. I really hope there are some shade tents and water coolers set up on holes throughout the course. There is absolutley no shade anywhere on the course. It was so hot and the course was so long we were absolutely miserable by the end and the loop absolutely reeked of manure. I really think this course has potential, but it needs alot of work/maintenance. As it is now I would rank it third of the 4 courses I play, Walhalla 1, Seneca 2, and Clemson a distant 4th.
