2011 SC Doubles Registration now open

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Registration for this year’s SC Doubles Championship is now open.  Go to StrangeDiscTour.com and register your team today.

A couple of things to be aware of when you register your team…each player gets a choice of one of three Innova Discs and one of three Discraft Discs.  I only have a limited number of each kind of disc and they will be first come first serve.  If you want to ensure you get the disc you want, you need to register early.

You get a choice of color and size of t-shirt.  You will need to register before September 1st to make sure you get a t-shirt.  You also will have a choice of adding your team name to your t-shirt for an additional $5.00 per team.

This year’s tournament will be held in Walhalla on Saturday, September 17th and in Seneca on Sunday, September 18th, 2011.  I look forward to seeing everyone in September.

Triple Threat Team Tourney Results

Monday, July 25th, 2011

We had a good turnout of 25 teams for the first ever Triple Threat Team Challenge.  We will be bringing the event back next year…not sure of a date or course yet…but we will do the Triple Team event again.

Thanks to Chattooga Belle Farm for hosting the event and thanks to Strange Disc Sports for doing the online registration and doing the payout for the AM divisions.  Thanks to everyone that paid to be part of the SC Doubles CTP and to those players that bought CTP discs for the doubles.  We made a little over $300 for the SC Doubles at the event.

Still Room in the Triple Team Tourney

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

The Triple Threat Team Tourney in Longcreek, SC at Chattooga Belle Farm has 25 teams registered and room for 11 more teams.  Feel free to show up and registered Saturday morning and play this first time tournament with two uniquely different formats.  It’s bound to be fun and challenging.

This is non-sanctioned event.  No ratings.  No points.  No trophies.  There will be cash payout for pro.  Gift certificates for Strange Disc merchandise.  ICE COLD BEER will be on sale through out the day.  Lunch will be available on site with a choice of a burger plate or a hot dog plate.

We will have DDC, Dodgebee and Guts if you want to try your hand at another flying disc event.

Visiting Tourism Folks

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

The Triple Threat Team Tournament will have visitors from the Rabun County GA Chamber of Commerce; Clayton GA Rotary Club and the SC Mountain Lakes CVB to see what Disc Golf can bring smaller communities.  Please be aware of these visitors and show them that Disc Golf can help bring tourism dollars to small towns.

Whether we realize it or not, when we travel to play tournaments in other communities, the money we spend in that town is considered tourism money.  Disc Golf is a viable tourism attraction.  By them seeing the amount of players from three different states that will be represented, is shows that Disc Golf can bring more people to their communities.

I’ve been working at getting a course somewhere in Rabun County, GA for several years and this could act as a tipping point to convince them to invest in Disc Golf.

Triple Team Registration - So far

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Here’s a look at the teams registered so far. We have two teams looking for a third.  Team Chuck from Charleston hoping to play Class A but will play AM if that is their only option.  There two strong advanced level players hoping to play pro and are looking for a third.

I’m hoping to see some more pro teams and mixed teams.

Ian Lundin is looking to play AM and would probably play mixed as well.  You can email me or send me a text and I will try and get players together.

I’ll be updating this post as more teams sign up. Looks like we’re going to have a strong turnout. I’d still like to see another mixed team. It’s a division we like to have at our doubles events and this event.

The teams not in BOLD haven’t paid.  Please try and pay online before the event.  It will make things go faster during sign in and registration Saturday morning.

Sign in and registration starts at 8am.  Players meeting at 9am.

Disc Golf in Schools

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Most of us agree that Disc Golf is one of the greatest games one can play.  I remember thinking back when I was in High School (I’ve been playing since I was 10) ‘wouldn’t it be great if Disc Golf was a high school sport?’  While more and more schools have started Disc Golf and/or Ultimate programs, not nearly enough schools have adopted Disc Golf.

One of our sponsors for this year’s SC Doubles Championship, DiscGolfStation.comis now offering an incentive for schools to add Disc Golf or Ultimate.

If you’ve been trying to get Disc Golf or Ultimate included in the offerings of your local schools, now you can let them know that DiscGolfStation.com is currently offering an a one time grant of $250 toward purchasing discs for their program.
