I played in the Strange Disc Tour event Sunday at Timmons in Greenville. I heard from several players that are disappointed that the SC Doubles will not include a day at Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek. Funny thing is I heard from several players last year that were disappointed that we weren’t using Sertoma Field in Walhalla and disappointed we were playing at Chattooga Belle Farm.
The good news is Chattooga Belle Farm will be host to the first ever Triple Team Tourney in July this year. It’s a one day team tournament of three player teams. Strange Disc Sports, GODG, Adam Wright and Chattooga Belle Farm are putting the event on together. Minus the $5 per player fee to Chattooga Belle Farm, all money paid in for the tournament will get paid out in cash to the pro field and in vouchers for Strange Disc Sports to the mixed and am teams.
The SC Doubles event will look at the possibility of using Sertoma Field, Chattooga Belle Farm, Central or Anderson as a host course for one of the two day tournament. Seneca will always host one of the two days as long as they continue to financially support the tournament.

If you’ve signed up to be notified by email through the site-registration page of SCdoubles.com, I might have had your email removed. Please sign up again.
The site was overwhelmed with spammers over the past couple of days and I had to remove thousands of registered users of the site when cleaning it up.

This year’s edition of the SC Doubles Championship is still seven months away but several sponsors have already signed on and committed to being part of the event this year. As more come on board, we’ll continue to update this site and several forums where we regularly post about the tournament.
The City of Seneca/Seneca Light and Water has once again decided to be a title sponsor of the event. This year we’re hoping to have a nice disc with just their logo for tournament players. Plans are right now to go with a CFR type disc. Strange Disc Sports is one of our original sponsors and this year will be doing the AM payout with vouchers and will be handling the online registration. Greater Oconee Disc Golf, the local club in Oconee County is the host club, as always. Simply put, this tournament wouldn’t be possible without the efforts and support of the members of the club. Zanfel® is a new sponsor this year. They are the makers of a soap that helps fight/get rid of poison ivy. They’re a product sponsor and will be giving samples to players and a CTP during one of the rounds. If you have always had issues with poison ivy, sumac or oak, click their link on the side column for more information. Disc Golf Station is a product sponsor this year. There will be an awesome Discraft CTP during this year’s tournament. The Discraft CTP is being sponsored/contributed by Disc Golf Station.
Past year’s sponsors SC Mountain Lakes CVB; Oconee County Parks, Recreation and Tourism; Blue Ridge Electric COOP and Hometown Food Store have all indicated that they will sponsor at minimum the same levels as they did in 2010. With less expense then last year (hopefully) with the change of location, we hope to bring a bigger payout in form of total amount given back to players and with the shear amount of CTPs for each division and for the entire field.

The SC Doubles for 2011 will be held Saturday and Sunday September 17-18th. The tournament will be held at Walhalla’s Sertoma Field and Seneca’s Shaver Recreation Center.
The tournament will go back to have four different formats this year and will also be adding divisions. Right now the plan is to have the tournament be a B Tier event. However if sponsorship dollars allow, we might move the event to an A tier if possible.

The Strange Disc Sports tour stop in Union, SC at River Chase has been moved to Timmons Park in Greenville. I don’t know the reason(s) for the change, I just know the tournament has been moved.
Strange Disc Sports puts on great events and plans are to have them be part of the SC Doubles again this year.

As plans for this years edition of the SC Doubles are being made, please let me know my responding to this post or emailing what you think should be added to the player’s pack. Each players pack will include a disc and a t-shirt. In past years we’ve added an extra disc, a catch disc and stash minis.
I’m considering clip boards, sharpie markers, reusable score cards or bottle openers.

Zanfel, a product that helps fight and prevent poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac, will be a product sponsor of the SC Doubles Championship this year. They will provide information on their product to all players and will be giving products to be included in CTPs during the tournament.
They’re the first product sponsor this year. We normally have several product sponsors. Plans are already underway to have product sponsors for CTPs from Innova Discs and Discraft. Discraft will be part of the tournament for the first time this year.
Our three main cash sponsors have already agreed to be part of the event again this year. All three have agreed to do a minimum of what they did last year. There is a chance one or two of those sponsors may step up this year and play a larger role in the tournament.
A date still hasn’t been set. We have been looking at a September date and we are also considering a date in Late July or mid August.

The town of Central will be one of the first towns/cities in South Carolina to add a new Disc Golf course in 2011. Central officials had a public meeting in October of 2008 where they sought input from citizens on what they would like to see as part of a new park planned for 35 acres of land that was being deeded to the town. Several players attended that meeting and spoke on behave of Disc Golf.
Bryan Schaupp is overseeing the design of the course. The town is putting up the funds for the first nine holes and players will be picking up the tab for the second 9 holes.
The property includes long term plans for multipurpose fields, ball fields and a dog park…along with the Disc Golf course. The plans for all but the Disc Golf is long term…10 or more years away. Bryan said on Sunday his hope is to utilize the entire property for the course and have a great course with a potential redesign in the future versus only using the land that is set aside for the course once all phases are complete.
With Seneca’s Shaver Recreation Center adding an additional 18 holes in 2011 (6 are in now) and Central’s new 18 hole course, that’s a growth of 7 courses since January 2010.
New courses in the upstate in 2010 include…
Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek (18 holes)
The Civic Center Course in Anderson (18 holes)
Furman University (9 holes)
Mountain View Park in Clemson (9 holes)
River Chase in Union (18 holes)
More details to come on the Central course as it gets close to installation time.

Right now we’re considering a date in Mid September for this years SC Doubles Championship. We were hoping to use the 3rd week in August again but the PDGA has scheduled their Global Tournament and I didn’t want to compete for players against a world-wide event. If the September date doesn’t work, the next choice is mid-July.
Right now the hope is to use Sertoma Field in Walhalla and Shaver Recreation in Seneca. With Shaver Recreation having already added 6 additional holes and possibly having 36 total holes, both days and all four rounds could end up being in Seneca. The SC Doubles has been committed to Oconee County and we will continue to try to include all the courses in rotation over the years. Hopefully one day the course at Clemson’s Y-Beach can be used.

Plans for the 2011 version of the SC Doubles is underway. No date has been selected yet but we are well on our way to lining up a great event. As of this morning, we’ve got commitments of about half the sponsorship dollars for the event that we had last year.
We’re working extra-hard this off season with plans of stepping up the 2011 version of the doubles to be able to include additional divisions. Plans are to include an Advanced Master Division and maybe a Rec division. If we’re successful in raising sponsorship dollars to afford more divisions the next step will be to have divisions split between courses. If we get the sponsorship needed, we’ll expand the amount of players and the number of courses.
If you’re a business owner, manager or know of a business owner or manager that might have an interest in sponsoring the event, please let me know.
More details to follow…
